Designed for intensive spodding, the Obsidian Spod reel delivers effortless power and smoothness. Made from Okuma's ultra-strong yet lightweight C-40X carbon, it significantly reduces fatigue during long sessions. Its ultralight spool and frictionless main shaft ensure smooth retrieval, even under heavy load.

Thanks to its high-speed worm gear, one-piece bail arm, and super-slow oscillation, the Obsidian Spod delivers ultra-precise line lay, maximizing casting distance and accuracy with every cast.

To reduce fishing line wear, we designed one piece of the pick-up, while the other is a roller with a special DLC coating. All bearings use HPB technology to achieve long-term corrosion resistance.

The one-piece bail is a seamless design that reduces friction on the bail, allowing unobstructed line entry into the smooth-flow roller with Diamond-Like Carbon DLC coating. The EFR II with DLC coating significantly reduces friction and prevents fishing worn out in addition to frictionless free-rolling roller reduces line twist.

CARBONITE BRAKE SYSTEM

Okuma's ALL NEW "Carbonite" drag system features a newly-developed carbon-based drag material which displaces heat and friction consistently and steadily even under the harshest of fishing conditions. Used in conjunction with a small amount of specially-formulated Okuma drag grease, the Carbonite drag system allows for a much wider and smoother drag range, all while maintaining exceptional performance and pure fish- stopping power.

On our Obsisdian Spod, it also allows you to quickly switch from a free drag to a tight drag, improving speed of use both when spod fishing and when using a marker float.

FLITE DRIVE™

In the previous reels, when the main shaft moved up and down, a large area of friction was generated with the inner hole of the pinion, which caused you to feel resistance when turning. In order to reduce drag and achieve the lightness of rotation, we hollowed out the center of the pinion to reduce friction with shaft. To achieve the excellent lightness that maintains the original support strength and makes you feel the rotation.
