The Basia 45 SCW P has been designed for the demanding angler. With its Zaion carbon body and ergonomic DS5 carbon rotor, it offers the perfect marriage of lightness and winding smoothness called for by high-performing surfcasters.
The MagSealed protection uses aerospace technology to block all intruding particles and so guarantee the smoothness of this jewel. What's more, the Slow Cross Wrap line lay drives home the sensation of smoothness and comfort on the retrieve.
Developed in line with the reel's super-slow ratio, it gives the mech yet more power and puts you in total control when playing delicate fish. Boasts a Tough Digigear drive gear in aluminium. Supplied with a spare spool.

Design reel details
MAGSEALED oil is a magnetic oil that uses aerospace technology to protect internal reel components and guarantee smooth rotation.
MAGSEALED technology is based on a magnetic oil developed by NASA. This liquid joint was originally used for the internal workings of hard drives – providing dustproofing but not waterproofing. Daiwa engineers took on the challenge of creating a waterproof oil, working to control the intensity of the magnetic force. This took hundreds of trials with adjustments down to micron level! The technology has been tried and tested on the water with the world’s top specialists in each discipline, and it has produced a demonstrable gain in the smoothness of rotation.
The Air Rotor stands out for its balance, toughness and sensitivity.
The arched profile and 15% weight reduction compared to standard rotors offers optimal winding smoothness and eliminates vibration thanks to the lowered centre of gravity.
Some of Daiwa’s reel bodies and rotors are made from Zaion, an exclusive high-density carbon with anti-corrosion properties that’s both lighter and tougher than magnesium.
Zaion’s engineers set out to build a material that was as tough as metal but as light as carbon. Conventional wisdom holds that an aluminium reel offers toughness while polycarbonate is needed to make a light body and rotor.
ZAION is a fusion of these two qualities. While ordinary carbon is made of nylon 6-6 resin and carbon fibres at 20%, ZAION boasts twice the density of carbon fibres. The result is a unique material that is as strong as magnesium. A ZAION body is 25% lighter than its equivalent in magnesium and 50% lighter than aluminium!
Double oscillation guarantees optimal line lay with no slips. The offload of the line on the cast has been optimised to keep the risk of tangles to an absolute minimum.
Slow Cross Wrap technology provides the reel with slow swinging recovery. The line is perfectly stored in the spool and the casts are optimized.
The new Infinite Anti Reverse system is activated with 4 times less force than a classic system.
Less than 2g is needed to engage the Real Stopper system which eliminates any handle movement, bringing sensitivity to the next level.
The perfect tuning of the contact points between helicoid and straight teeth create an energy yield close to 99% and silent rotation. Daiwa gear trains offer superior winding smoothness.
